"Pipers Will Power"

Oil on linen mounted on birch wood panel - 6" x 8"

Devo was playing in my head while I painted this piece - whippet, whippet good. Commissioned by his owner, the painting has more color than this reproduction indicates. That mushy orange color is actually a rich, cadmium red / rose madder, later toned down via a glaze to a rich mahogany. The warm creams, bright whites and subtle hints of pink and blue got lost in the translation. Oh well - it happens.

Hi Deb,
Thanks for the kind words - as you know, they are music to my ears; the comments, not necessarily the praise. (Well, OK maybe a little praise.) Comments let me know people are looking.
For the record and it's an honest mistake, given his appellation, this elegant, majestic beast, i have on good authority, is quite the stud.

What a wonderful doe eyed pup... I have never known one to sit still long enough even for a photo.. He is a well depicted creature

This is a beautifully done portrait of this sweet-eyed dog! I love the overall graphic nature of the painting with colorblocks that are not obvious colorblocks. Excellent!

Thanks for the kind words Judy. You have a good eye; that is exactly what I was going for. Too bad the color washed out in the transfer to the blog site. Pulling those reds down into the composition near his back legs really made this piece.
