"Water lily"

Oil on Canvas mounted on board - 6" x 8"

Tucked away in hidden courtyards all over the French Quarter are wonderful lush gardens; tiny oases of wonderful flora and fauna. These tropical gardens are a great place to escape from the Louisiana heat, slope back a Hurricane or a Sazerac or just commune with nature.  I chanced upon this lily pond while on a culinary walking tour of New Orleans.

I'm off to Birmingham and won't post again until Wednesday night.

Mark, this one is lovely... the flower petal dipping under the water is wonderful... I can feel that sunny day.

Hi Mark,

I have not seen any of your work in flora and fauna before - and I must say you handle it as well as the other subjects you have painted! I really like the variations of green that you have used to move our eyes around the painting as well as the size difference in the lily pads. Very nice.

Take care, Mark.

Thanks, girls. This is only the 2nd or 3rd landscape (if you can call it that) that I have ever done. I am a total stranger to green pigments and jumped into this painting like Henri Rousseau; naïve yet confident. I’m glad you like it. I am still in B’ham. New work soon.
