Oil on museum quality ampersand gessobord panel 8" x 8"
"I'm baaack" Yes I finally put brush to panel for the first time in the new studio. I couldn't find my maul stick, paint rags, turpentine, and miscellaneous other painting accouterments but I managed to get something on the easel. Schatzi is my friend Beth's wire haired dachshund. She's a real schweetie and reminds me of Alfalfa from the little rascals with her cute cowlick (Schatzi, not Beth). Hey, it's a start.

Mark-I can't stop looking at the picture...it is unbelievable..what a great surprise for Beth this am for her Bday...Jan
Good to have you back!!! Was beginning to wonder what happen to you in all those boxes. *smile*
Suellen, Thanks for the kind words. It is always difficult for me to do a cold start after a long hiatus from painting. Schatzi was the perfect subject. Her endearing face looking back at me from the easel gave me the confidence to keep pushing the paint around.
Beth, I glad you like it. Please forgive my misspelling her name earlier today. Unforgivable given my German heritage. My dad named his sailboat "Schatzi" which perhaps explains it, in some Freudian way (I hated sailing.) Anyway, thanks and Alles Gute zum Geburtstag!
Thanks, Gary. I was all prepared to jump into another piece this afternoon and wouldn't you know - the electricity went out! (No, really) I am off to CJ's for crabs and beer, so there will be no new work tonight. You know what happens when you drink and draw - nothing good. How is Bon? We've been thinking about her. Give her a very gentle hug from me.
Grazie molto, Arcobaleno.
Jan - As you know "Schatzi" is a German pet name (in this case literally) for "treasure." She was indeed a little treasure to paint. Thanks for the opportunity to use her as a model.
Thanks, Susan. The boxes are still here I assure you. The stack is somewhat lower but there is still much to be done. (The downside of being a pack rat)
Great return! Love how the collar picks up the color in her muzzle and eyebrows. Glad to have you back.
Thanks, Deb.
Welcome back to Blogville, Mr. Adams. You've been missed!
Congrats on the new home and that gorgeous studio.
Thanks, Don. Although close to metropolitan Baltimore, we now live in a small town called Sparks which is behind the times technologically speaking. We only recently solved the "no cable (not even DSL) issue" via 3G broadband. It's good to be back. I've missed everyone.
It is beautiful. I'm so excited you're finally productive in your new studio -- congratulations! Did you guys get my emails?
Thanks, Laura. Yes I did (just) get your e-mail and as it required a lengthy answer I have been waiting until I had time to properly respond. A thousand pardons, things are still crazy here. You both have been on our minds lately.
Welcome back, Mark!!!
Schatzi looks so regal and refined.
Quite an impressive rendering!
The playful collar almost glows and balances the seriousness of the dog's expression.
You are indeed back....and with a vengeance!
-Dean
Thanks, Dean! I appreciate your observation about the collar - I was a bit nervous about it's intensity. I've got a bunch of new stuff planned for this week...Stay tuned.
So good to have you back, Mark!! Love the new doggie with the sweet gazing eyes.
Thanks, Diane. You've been doing some very exciting and dynamic work lately.
YEAH!!!!!!! You are painting and posting!!!!!! The long wait was SO worth it - I love Schatzi! No one would know that you hadn't painted in months - you're in the groove again! We have missed you. :-)
I've been waiting with baited breath to see you post a new piece. Glad you found your way back to the blogosphere. This painting is, as always, spectacular!
Bravo- DAd!!
Joanne. As you can tell, I am still not up to speed on the computer yet. Thanks for the sweet comment.
Thanks, Brenda. I left a trail of breadcrumbs to find my way back and the birds ate them.
Thanks, Holly. I hope you had a wonderful birthday.
