"Cleo"

Oil on museum quality ampersand gessobord panel 6" x 6"

Like ordering a Cosmo at a bar, it takes a truly manly man to paint puppies and kittens. I really wasn't going for the cheap shot with this piece - honestly. I was grabbed by the Tissot-like back-lighting on this little imp. My friends Sherry and Joe just adopted two sweet sisters from the S.P.C.A. These gregarious girls, Cleo and her litter mate, Iris, couldn't be cuter if they tried. Cleo was clowning around on the landing stairs and her aura of light and amusing expression was something I deemed paint worthy, if just a silly bit of fun.

This is terrific, Mark. Humorous, yes, but silly, not at all. Wonderfully painted.

I appreciated the honesty of your comments in the previous post. It's so important to stay in touch with why we started painting in the first place--the sheer joy of it, despite the struggle.

Thanks, Don. Your work is so inspired and precise, it's hard to believe you, too, struggle at times. That's an oddly comforting feeling.

btw - I really like what you've been doing lately. The painting "Driftwood Shore" reminds me of St Patrick driving the snakes out of Ireland.

Love your honest humor. Even if cats are cute they still are "paintworthy"! Keep on painting Mark!

Thanks, Brenda. I've never met a cat the wasn't paint-worthy in my eyes.

Thanks, Aubrey. I just spent some time perusing your blog. Nice work! I particularly liked the painting of Olive and Kayne that you did back in April.

I clicked on this beautiful painting as soon as I saw it because the kitty looks like my cat whom I adored and who has since died. Imagine my surprise when I saw the name Cleo-- that was her name too.

Thanks, Dean.
