"Abbey"

Oil on museum quality ampersand gessobord panel - 6" x 8"

As promised - this is Jake's friend Abbey basking in the afternoon sun. I had mixed feelings about included her intense red collar but I think I like it.

Love the bold touch of red! I think is serves the piece well. And what a smart kitty with those squinty eyes!

Thanks, Diane. She does look like she is enjoying her day in the sun.

Thanks, Brenda. I appreciate the feedback, especially from a fellow artist whose work I admire.

Another beauty...yes the red collar is great. I have a black and white cat who loves to wear either red or royal blue accessories...a real "glamour puss"
I love the squinting eyes on this beauty,,,they so often do this and you captured it perfectly.

Abby is becoming a really good modle. So nice she is all dressed up for the Holiday with a red colar. I wonder if Elvis would wear one?

Love the red collar. Pulls the warmth of the deck further up into the painting with a bit of an exclamation point. Two great paintings for someone on Christmas day.

Cynthia,

JJ, too, squeezes his eyes when he is contented, so I know and love that look. I'm glad you think it works here. Thanks for the comment.

Delilah, I never saw Elvis in a red collar but I have no doubt he had his kinky side. I think white jump suits were more his...What's that - your cats name is Elvis? Um...never mind.

Mark, I like the way you captured that sleepy expression but I am having trouble with that red. It makes me think she just had a fatal accident.

Alice, My wife said the same thing when she saw the original reference so I tried it without the collar and it didn't really work. Perhaps the color red evokes that "Jack the ripper" feeling where the neck is concerned but as an abstract element in the composition and whereas dear Abbey wears said collar, I think it works.

Mark!

This looks great!

I love Abbey's expression and those squinting eyes! Quite original!

And don't worry, the splash of red on the collar is just what this painting needed!

Excellent job!

Thanks, Pegi Sue. Things have been crazy here with last minute secret Christmas commissions and trying to get the new house in order for the holidays. Hopefully 2011 will see lots more work coming out of the studio.
