Oil on museum quality ampersand gessobord panel 8" x 8"
Although my idea of having a few "black and tans" normally takes place at my local Irish pub, this motley crew also put a smile on my face. The image was sent to me recently by Anne Stark, breeder of champion dachshunds and whippets. She seemed to think I could have fun with this and she was right. Her pups can be seen on her website "Piper's puppies4u."
Thanks for the amusing reference, Anne.
You may ask why the blue eyes? The original reference of these pups was most assuredly made with a flash which reflected back as blue. I toyed with the idea of making the retinas black but I liked the cobalt accents dancing around the panel. I think it livens up the painting.

too cute!!! Love the warm palette you chose for this painting.
Thanks, Sheila. You know I'm a sucker for intense reds.
love the "Pile O' Puppies"...
Thanks, Di.
I love how you achieved the shine in each puppy's coat, to say nothing of the differing expressions in each of their eyes and faces! Another winner!
Thanks, Joanne. It's fun painting black fur as it allows for the introduction of a myriad of reflective color.
Adorabili!!!! bellissimi!!!!
These precious little guys jumped right out of the group of paintings on the Daily Painter's page. Too cute! I can almost smell the Puppy Breath. Ahhhhhh.
Siete dolce, Arcobaleno.
Puppy breath has got to be better than kitty breath after a can of tuna. Thanks, Gwen
Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww soooooooooooooo CUTE ! ! You really captured these little guys ! What fun you must have had doing them.
Alston, I was apprehensive about sinking to "cute" on the daily paintings but the prospect of filling the panel with five staring faces in such a limited palette was a challenge I wanted to take on, and yes, it was fun.
Mark, In some cases "cute" is ok, and the puppies are one of those cases (at least i think so)It's what I call a "feel good" painting.I mean it as a real compliment to your artist ability.
Alston,
I took no offense. I agree that by their very nature puppies, kittens, young creatures of all stripe are adorable. Maybe I am too sensitive able being pigeonholed as a genre painter or going for the cheap tug at the heartstrings. I appreciate your comment and took it as you meant it. Thanks!
Love the blue eyes. So startling!! Any chance for a movie this week?
Thanks, Deb. The movies may have to wait until next week. I'll call you.
Sucker for intense reds... me too.
hmmmm... very cute dad- beautiful capturing.
Thanks, Holly.
LOVE...LOVE...LOVE IT!!!!
What colors..WOW!
Thanks, Olga.
that is just the sweetest painting..But, I think I say that about most of your pieces..You are amazing at capturing those little souls, Mark.
